Tyler's History-Making Moments

Describe your central passion(s) and how you hope to carry that into your post-grad plans:

My passion comes from being a part of a team working with others to achieve a common goal.  I enjoy being a leader in a team atmosphere while leading by example is my biggest strength.  Post-grad, I hope to find an opportunity to be a part of something much bigger than myself, a team/family like atmosphere where everyone desires success and is willing to do what it takes to achieve it.  I am seeking opportunities to begin a career in the golf industry with no specific position in mind.

What (or who) helped inspire your passion in this area (or areas)?

My parents and coaches throughout my life have encouraged and inspired me to be a leader in everything I do.  Whether it be on the court, in the classroom or in the workplace, leading is something I take great pride in. I have always been taught that leading by actions has much more impact than leading only with words.

Briefly tell us the story of one stand-out memory from your time at Flagler that will always make you smile:

During my third year of college, we had a great team. I expected to play a lot and have an important role on the team given we had just come off a Final Four run the season prior where I played a significant role.  Well, I was wrong.  There were a lot of transfers that came in and I lost nearly all my playing time. This triggered me to spiral downhill emotionally, mentally, and physically. I dug myself in a deep hole by slacking in the classroom.  I was at a point where I was going to fail several classes and would not be eligible for the first half of the next season.  I finally reached out for help.  I was able to salvage my grades and pass the remaining classes for that semester.  After, I immediately switched my major from Business Administration to Sport Management. Since then, I have made tremendous progress in the classroom, becoming a part of the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll.  And the moment I will never forget, a year after a time of struggle, was being notified that I made the Flagler College Dean’s list for the Fall semester of 2023.

What academic resources, experiences, or mentors proved most valuable throughout your Flagler experience?

My most valuable experience has been volunteering to work at THE PLAYERS Championship through the Sport Management Program.  This experience was not only super cool, but it also allowed me to see firsthand what hosting, working, and executing large scale events like a golf tournament are handled.  It also provided me with the opportunity to network and make great connections within the golf industry that will be useful post-grad while kickstarting my career in the industry.

What is one piece of advice or lesson you learned about the college experience that you wish you could tell your freshman year self?

College is not just about learning material and memorizing it to perform well on exams.  The real purpose of college is to engage in new opportunities, create connections, and gain valuable experiences to set yourself apart when starting a career.

Tell us about what you’re up to next! Any cool experiences, professional positions, or unique opportunities you have lined up after graduation?

After Graduation, I will be beginning an internship with First Tee North Florida.  I hope to gain valuable knowledge and professional skills and expand my network in the golf industry. I will be in search of opportunities within the golf industry during the internship to take on when it has finished.
