Lindsey's History-Making Moments

Describe your central passion(s) and how you hope to carry that into your post-grad plans:

I find the growing interconnectedness of our economies and businesses worldwide to be fascinating. I've always sought to understand how businesses operate across borders and adapt to different cultures, regulations, and economic environments. Post-grad I would love to do an international tour with an accounting firm to gain travel experience and improve my intercultural communication skills. Through accounting, I will be able to ensure that firms are acting ethically and with integrity.

What (or who) helped inspire your passion in this area (or areas)?

Dr. Susan Herrera and Dr. Jorge Herrera truly inspired me to expand my perspective regarding global business. They emphasized the importance of understanding cultural nuances and diversity in global business interactions; this truly sparked my curiosity to explore the outside world. Professor Ryan Parris and Professor Michael Chester were both truly inspiring to me in the accounting field. They showed me how accounting can be used for the betterment of businesses and society as a whole.

Briefly tell us the story of one stand-out memory from your time at Flagler that will always make you smile:

It was the last class we had before Professor Chester retired. He showed up in shorts, flip flops and a Hawaiian shirt and decided to hold class outside that day. I just remember sitting outside on a beautiful day in the Pollard courtyard with my classmates learning our final lesson with him. At the end we all recounted our fond memories of him, and he spoke about his gratitude for having us as students. He then went on to grant us general life advice that has guided me to this day. It truly felt like a full-circle moment, and I will always be appreciative of him and the lessons he taught us.

What academic resources, experiences, or mentors proved most valuable throughout your Flagler experience?

The Alumni Mentorship Program through PLA was incredibly beneficial for me. Prior to meeting Marissa Meadows, I was a bit lost on my long-term goals and my path in life. Marissa guided me with insight that helped me craft meaningful long-term aspirations and achievable short-term goals. Through this process, I was able to introspect and better understand what my passions are in life. Additionally, she imparted me with crucial skills in problem-solving and stress management; these tools have truly enabled me to better navigate challenges.

What is one piece of advice or lesson you learned about the college experience that you wish you could tell your freshman year self?

  1. Do not allow your mind to constrain what is possible for you. Dream big and say yes to any opportunities that come your way. You never know what you are capable of and what unlikely paths you may align with.
  2. Success is not about the grade that goes on the book. It is about the relationships you form, the opportunities you take, and the lasting impact you leave on your community.

Tell us about what you’re up to next! Any cool experiences, professional positions, or unique opportunities you have lined up after graduation?

I have the honor to begin a full-time career with KPMG International (A Big Four Accounting Company) as an audit associate this fall. I am extremely thrilled to have the opportunity to work with one of the nation's top accounting firms.
