Personal Computers

One important way to keep your computer in working condition is by ensuring that your operating system and other programs are up-to-date. You can run updates on both Macs and PCs from built-in, automatic updaters, or you can visit http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ or http://update.microsoft.com to ensure that you are downloading legitimate updates. To keep programs up-to-date, visit their websites, or locate an update option from within the program.

Instructions for running software updates on your computer

Windows

Click "Start."
Look for the program "Windows Update" located in one of the following locations:
- At the top of the Start Menu
- In the Start Menu under "All Programs"
- In the Start Menu under "All Programs" > "Windows"

Macintosh

Click the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of your screen.
Click "Software Update..."

Campus Computers

Windows and Mac computers are updated automatically on set schedules. Some software updates require a restart to take effect, so you may be prompted to restart after certain updates. Windows updates are pushed out automatically. Mac updates can be retrieved through the Flagler Apps application, or are applied automatically on Fridays at noon.
