Is Flagler College Right for Me?

The_Right_FitFinding the right college isn’t easy.

At Flagler College, we realize that you have hundreds of questions—and thousands of institutions to choose from—as you look for a college that is a perfect fit for you. But after years of experience, we’ve learned that there are four critical questions to answer in making your college decision.

  1. Does it offer a strong program in my major?
  2. Can I afford it?
  3. Is this the right size for me?
  4. Does this community share my values?

1) Does it offer a strong program in my major?

Even a college ranked the best in the country isn’t right for you if it doesn’t offer your specific program or major. And no college can offer every program and be strong in all of them. Flagler offers a select, carefully chosen list of programs in the liberal arts, business, and education—and excels in them. For fields like deaf education, pre-law, business or accounting, sport management, or graphic design, for instance, few colleges can match Flagler for value.

2) Can I afford it?

The right college must offer a costs-to-benefits equation that works for you. With a cost that is less than half that of comparable private colleges; benefits that include small class sizes, a vibrant student life, competitive athletic programs, an ideal location and quality of life; and an impressive history of achievements, Flagler is consistently ranked as offering among the best values in the country. But that’s not all. More than 85 percent of Flagler students receive financial aid.

3) Is this the right size for me?

If you prefer the anonymity of a huge school, Flagler is not the right fit for you. We focus exclusively on undergraduate teaching and remain small by design. Our enrollment is limited to approximately 2,500 students—you will find yourself involved in everything that happens on this campus. And with more than 94 percent of Flagler classes comprised of 35 or fewer students, and a student-faculty ratio of 21-1, you will receive all the personal attention you need.

4) Does this community share my values?

Just as you form closer relationships with people who share your interests, you will be most comfortable in a college community which shares your values. Flagler College offers a values-based education aimed at educating the whole person. Our class attendance policy, our prohibition against alcohol and inter-dorm visitation, and our emphasis on social justice, service, and collegiality are all designed to provide an environment that encourages scholarship, good citizenship, and high ethical standards. We believe this is why Flagler graduates not only succeed professionally, but also become leaders and role models within their communities.
