Saints hold off pesky Warriors, 70-60
LAKELAND, Fla. - Sam Jozenville (Orlando, Fla./Santa Fe CC) recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead 22nd-ranked (NAIA Division II) Flagler College to a narrow 70-60 win over Wesley College of Florence, Miss., in a non-conference men’s basketball game in the Southeastern Christmas Classic at the Sportsplex.
Ben De La Cruz (Orlando, Fla./University HS) recorded his third double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for Flagler (8-3). Bryan Borstelmann (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee HS), coming off a career-high 29-point effort last night, chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Brandon Washington led Wesley (8-9) with a game-high 18 points and added nine rebounds. Stephen Smith added 13 points and seven boards while Donyelle Magee chipped in with 13 points. The Warriors forced 22 turnovers and converted them into 25 points. Wesley is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II.
Flagler College will now enter the Christmas break period. The next game for the Saints will be Jan. 3 against Gallaudet University of Washington, D.C. at 8 p.m. The game follows the Notre Dame College of Cleveland-University of St. Francis (Ill.) game which kicks off the annual Flagler College Tournament.
