Tars triumph over Lady Saints, 67-33

WINTER PARK, Fla. − Joslyn Giles led a balanced scoring attack with a game-high 17 points as NCAA Division II Rollins College rolled to a 67-33 win over NAIA Division II Flagler College in a non-conference women’s basketball game Wednesday night at Warden Arena.
 
Rachel Workman came off the bench to score 13 points and grab seven rebounds for Rollins (7-0). Nine of the 11 Tar players suited scored at least a point in the contest. Rollins, the overwhelming favorite to win the Sunshine State Conference, forced 33 Flagler turnovers and converted them into 27 points.
 
The Tars led tip to final horn, including opening the game on an 11-0 run. In the first half, neither team scored a field goal for a span of 4:34. The Tars to their biggest lead in the opening half, 26-8, after a Sally Johnston layup with 4:33 left in the half. The Lady Saints closed the half on a 9-4 run and trailed 30-17 despite shooting 26.9% from the field.
 
Flagler (5-5) scored the first five points of the second half on a 3-pointer by Caren Fiorillo (Meadville, Pa./Northwest Pa. Collegiate Academy) and a Brittney Garmon (St. Augustine, Fla./St. Augustine HS) layup which cut the deficit to eight points, 30-22. The Lady Saints would go scoreless in the next 4:04 and Rollins went on a 14-0 run to open the game up with 13:19 left.
 
Garmon led the Lady Saints with 15 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Alicia Ramsdell (Wells, Maine/Wells HS) added seven points and four rebounds coming off the bench. Flagler’s 28.0% shooting from the field was its lowest this season.
 
Flagler’s game on Saturday at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. The Lady Saints will host NCAA Division III Piedmont College of Demorest, Ga., on Dec. 11 at 2 p.m.
