Wildcats claw out 71-55 win over Lady Saints
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. − Keturah Newkirk scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead NCAA Division I Bethune-Cookman College to a 71-55 win over Flagler College (NAIA Division II) in a non-conference women’s basketball game Tuesday night at Moore Gymnasium. The game was an exhibition for Bethune-Cookman.
Katie Clark added 18 points and six boards while Cherica Henry chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats. Danetta Simpson tallied 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals coming off of the bench. Sabrina Boykin registered six assists.
Bethune-Cookman forced 25 Flagler turnovers and converted them into 29 points.
Caren Fiorillo (Meadville, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate School) led Flagler (3-2) with 19 points, sinking 6-of-12 shots from the field including 5-of-11 from behind the arc. Jamie Allenbaugh (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Virginia Wesleyan College) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds while Meaggan Anderson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) grabbed 10 boards and added eight points for the Lady Saints. Sarah Hately (Sydney, Australia/Westfields Sports HS) tallied six assists.
Flagler will play in the third annual Piedmont College Lady Lion Tip-Off Classic opening Friday against Greensboro College at 4 p.m. at the Johnny Mize Athletic Center. The Lady Saints will take on Texas Lutheran University at 2 p.m. on Saturday to round out the tournament.
