Bees blank Lady Saints 2-0 for region title

SAVANNAH, Ga. — NAIA Region XIV Newcomer of the Year Mary-Kate Sliter scored a pair of goals to lead the Savannah College of Art and Design to a 2-0 win over Flagler College in the championship match of the region’s women’s soccer tournament Saturday afternoon at Forsyth Park. SCAD receives the region’s automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament held Nov. 16-22 in Olathe, Kan. This will be SCAD’s first trip to nationals after losing three other times in region finals.

Sliter scored the match’s first goal in the 21st minute as she converted a pass from Mallory Phillips. Her second goal gave SCAD (11-7-1) some insurance when she collected a loose ball in front of the goal and knocked it into the net in the 84th minute.

Lisa Gallant recorded her sixth shutout of the year, tallying a season-high 11 saves for the Bees.

Kate Carver (Margate, Fla./Nova HS) recorded eight saves for Flagler (14-5-0).

SCAD out-shot Flagler 19-18 and held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.
