Flagler downs Sawyer Brown All-Stars 90-84

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Sam Jozenville (Orlando, Fla./Santa Fe CC) led six Saints in double figures with 15 points to lead Flagler College to a 90-84 win over the Sawyer Brown All-Stars in a men’s basketball exhibition game Tuesday night at Flagler Gym.

Jozenville scored eight of his 15 in the second half including hitting a five-foot jumper to cap a 7-1 run by Flagler midway through the second half. Flagler took the lead, 74-71, when Paul Terminello (Sarasota, Fla./Out-of-Door Academy) converted an old-fashioned three-point play, putting back a missed trey and then was fouled on the shot.

The Saints out-rebounded Sawyer Brown 51-34 and took advantage on the offensive glass 22-7. Flagler out-scored Sawyer Brown 28-5 in second chance points.

Ben De La Cruz (Orlando, Fla./University HS) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds and he added a pair of blocks to his tally. Lee Wise (Rockledge, Fla./Brevard Christian School) and Terminello both scored 13 points in a reserve role. Bryan Borstelmann (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee HS) and Kyle Cregan (New Port Richey, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) both tallied 11 points.

Drew Maddux (Vanderbilt ’98), an All-Southeastern Conference selection in 1997-98, led all scorers with 35 points. He sank six 3-pointers for Sawyer Brown. Jim Farmer (Alabama ’87), a former All-American and first round draft pick of the Dallas Mavericks, added 26 points. Mark Miller (UCF ’79), the lead singer of Sawyer Brown, grabbed five rebounds and tallied four assists.

Flagler will play one more exhibition contest, Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Augusta Pistons at Flagler Gym. The Saints officially open the season on Nov. 3 against Emmanuel College at Flagler Gym at 7 p.m.
