Lady Saints triumph over Lady Warriors, 3-1

BABSON PARK, Fla. −Melissa Bear (Orange Park, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) and Krista McAra (Merritt Island, Fla./Merritt Island HS) each recorded 16 kills to lead Flagler College to a 3-1 (26-30, 30-26, 30-26, 30-18) win over Webber International University in a Florida Sun Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon.

Elizabeth Layfield (Gainesville, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) added 12 kills and eight service aces for Flagler (14-10, 8-1 Florida Sun). Jessica Pate (Green Cove Springs, Fla./Clay HS)  tacked on 10 kills for the Lady Saints while Sarah Spraggins (Jacksonville, Fla./Fletcher HS) led the defense with 26 digs. Katie Pommier (Crescent City, Ill./Crescent Iroquois HS) tallied 26 assists and Carrie Arnette (Keystone Heights, Fla./St. Johns River CC) added 23 more.

Webber International falls to 22-6 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

Flagler plays a pivotal Florida Sun Conference match on Tuesday against arch-rival Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gym. The Lady Saints hold a 1.5 game lead over the third-place Eagles, but Embry-Riddle has won both matches this season (once in a tournament in West Palm Beach and once in Daytona Beach). Should Flagler win Tuesday, it will potentially set up a showdown Nov. 2 for the conference regular season title at Savannah College of Art and Design.
