Eagles soar past Lady Saints, 3-0
FORT MYERS, Fla. | Florida Gulf Coast University hitting an outstanding .464 en route to defeating Flagler College 3-0 (30-14, 30-15, 30-23) in a non-conference womenfs volleyball match at Alico Arena Friday night. FGCU, an NCAA Division II independent, extends its win streak to seven consecutive matches.
Ericka Fonseca led FGCU (16-2) with 14 kills and added five block assists. She hit .444 for the match. Brooke Youngquist added 10 kills and 16 digs and she hit an amazing .556. Whitney Hendry added 15 digs for the Eagles and Ciara Sandoval registered 26 assists. FGCU tallied only five attack errors in the entire match.
Elizabeth Layfield (Gainesville, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) recorded five kills and tallied 15 digs for Flagler (12-10). Krista McAra (Merritt Island, Fla./Merritt Island HS) and Jessica Pate (Green Cove Springs, Fla./Clay HS) each registered five kills.
Flagler will return to conference play Oct. 14 when they travel to Lake Wales to take on Warner Southern College at 7 p.m.
