Knop and Saints win in double OT, 1-0
Almost 48 hours after losing a double overtime match, Flagler College went to the second extra session again, but this time coming away with a hard-fought 1-0 win over 19th-ranked Savannah College of Art & Design in a Florida Sun Conference men’s soccer match at Saints Field.
Daniel Knop (Sydney, Australia/Narrabeen Sports HS) collected Andres Jaramillo’s (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek HS) pass just in front of the penalty box and broke in and beat the keeper to his lower left in the 102nd minute for the golden goal to snap Flagler’s (3-8, 3-4 Florida Sun) three-match losing streak.
Flagler had countless opportunities in the offensive third of the field, but shots went either high or wide but Knop converted the one that meant the most, his fifth goal of the season, and coming off the bench.
Flagler out-shot SCAD 27-11 including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. SCAD held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-4.
Jordan Holtz (Clermont, Fla.) pitched the shutout, his first and the team’s first, tallying four saves and making several key stops on crosses.
James Mason (Paisley, Scotland) recorded seven saves for SCAD (9-3, 5-3). Jon Olaffson (Reykjavik, Iceland) booted three shots, but was not on goal.
