Sailfish hold off Lady Saints, 3-2

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic University held off a rallying Flagler College team 3-2 (30-21, 27-30, 30-18, 24-30, 15-13) in a non-conference women’s volleyball match Thursday night at Rubin Arena.

Jessica Wedemyer (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh HS) led Flagler’s (8-5) offensive attack with 11 kills. Elizabeth Layfield (Gainesville, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) led the defense with 23 digs and also recorded four service aces. Shelly Jencik (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons HS) added 10 kills and Carrie Arnette (Keystone Heights, Fla./St. Johns River CC) tallied 34 assists.

Palm Beach Atlantic raises its record to 8-4.

The Lady Saints will take on Northwood University in a Florida Sun Conference match tomorrow at noon in West Palm Beach. Flagler will also take on Florida Memorial University at 2:15 and follow that by playing fourth-ranked (NAIA) Madonna at 6:15 p.m. in the Sailfish Classic. The tournament concludes on Saturday.
