Potter and Lady Saints subdue Tritons, 1-0
Jessica Potter (Ormond Beach, Fla./Seabreeze HS) found the left side of the goal open a booted the bam to the back of the net to give 18th-ranked (NAIA )Flagler College a 1-0 win over NCAA Division II-member Eckerd College in a non-conference women’s soccer match Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. The goal was Potter’s fourth of the season.
Potter’s goal came in the 27th minute as Marissa McConihay (North Palm Beach, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens HS) threaded the pass by a couple of Triton defenders to the wide open Potter.
The goal would stand up as Flagler (7-2) out-shot Eckerd 23-6 and 10-3 in shots on goal. The Lady Saints also enjoyed a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Kate Carver (Margate, Fla./Nova HS) recorded three saves for Flagler in notching her fourth shutout of the season.
Mary Warren tallied four shots, two on goal, for Eckerd (2-7). Caitlin McClure recorded nine saves for the Tritons.
Flagler will host Florida Sun Conference-rival Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Saint Field.
