Knop and Saints ground Seahawks, 2-1
Sophomore forward Daniel Knop (Sydney, Australia/Narrabeen Sports HS) netted a pair of second goals to lead Flagler College to a 2-1 victory over Northwood University in a Florida Sun Conference men’s soccer match Friday night at Saints Field.
Knop’s first goal came in the 52nd minute when he booted in a through ball from Sean Frye (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) to give Flagler (2-5, 2-2 Florida Sun) a 1-0 lead. Knop would find the goal again when he knocked in a cross from Joey Riley (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) in the 67th minute. Mike Allard (North Lauderdale, Fla./Coconut Creek HS) recorded five saves for the Saints.
Sam Jackson prevented the shutout when he headed in a cross from Kawa Foad in the 86th minute for Northwood (2-5, 1-3). Tuomas Peltoniemi recorded six saves for the Seahawks.
Northwood had slight advantages in shots, 14-13, and corner kicks, 8-7.
Flagler’s next match will be Sept. 26 at Stetson University in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
