Rollins men top Flagler, 4-1

WINTER PARK, Fla. (courtesy of Allyson Hunt, Rollins College Assistant SID) - Senior forward Ryan Dodds blasted a shot past the keeper just 12 seconds into the game and Chris Chafin tallied a pair of scores as Rollins College defeated Flagler College 4-1 in a non-conference men’s soccer match at the Cahall-Sandspur Field Sunday afternoon.

Dana Singer was spectacular in his first start between the posts for Rollins (3-2), allowing just one goal and racking up five saves in 90 minutes.

Rollins came out of the gate fired up as Chafin and Matthew Gowan were able to get the ball to Dodds deep in the box for his fourth goal of the year, putting the hosts up 1-0. Scott Murrell (Naples, Fla.) gave Rollins a 2-0 advantage as he scored on a Juan Kusnir offering in the 36th minute.

Early in the second half, Daniell Robertson lofted a perfect free kick into the box right to Chafin who was able to put it past the Saints keeper and give the Tars a 3-0 lead in the 49th minute. The visitors got one back in the 69th minute as a Tucker O’Keefe (Coral Springs, Fla./Westminster Academy) shot bounced off a Rollins defender and past Singer for the score. Chafin came back 20 minutes later and grabbed his second goal of the game and third of the season with a rocket from the right side of the goal box to give the Tars a 4-1 victory.

The Rollins defense of Robertson, David Dwyer, Eric Vergati and Anthony Santiago played tough throughout as the Tars held a 19-12 edge in shots.

Flagler will travel north to take on the 21st-ranked Savannah College of Art & Design Tuesday at 7 p.m.
