Lady Saints tame Lions, 3-2 in OT
SAINT LEO, Fla. — Marissa McConihay (North Palm Beach, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens HS) scored her second goal of the match 2:10 into the overtime session to give Flagler College a 3-2 win over Saint Leo University Wednesday night at University Field.
McConihay was surrounded by three Saint Leo defenders in the box, but was able to get a shot off that found the low corner in the net for the game winner. She notched the match’s first goal in the 24th minute. Almost 14 minutes later, Jessica Potter (Ormond Beach, Fla./Seabreeze HS) put Flagler (2-1) up 2-0 when she found the back of the net off a Caitlin Eggimann (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze HS) pass.
Saint Leo (0-2) rallied for two consecutive goals. Jane Seedhouse cut the Lady Saint advantage in half with her goal in the 40th minute off Kristin Stephens’ corner kick. Jennifer O’Connor scored the equalizer in the 75th minute as she headed in a Stephens cross.
Kate Carver (Margate, Fla./Nova HS) tallied three saves for the Lady Saints. Flagler haad a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Jennifer Higgins recorded four saves for the Lions.
Flagler will host Mount Olive College Sunday at 2 p.m. at Saints Field.
