Anderson and Lady Saints top Sailfish, 76-64
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Meaggen Anderson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) scored a season-high 27 points and grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds in leading Flagler College to a 76-64 win over Palm Beach Atlantic University in a non-conference women’s basketball game Saturday night at Flagler Gym.
Anderson, the Florida Sun Conference Player of the Week (Jan. 8), scored 19 of her game-high 27 points in the second half for Flagler (9-9), who has won three straight games. Anderson made 10-of-16 shots from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Caren Fiorillo (Meadville, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Saints while Jamie Allenbaugh (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Virginia Wesleyan College) and Brittney Garmon (St. Augustine, Fla./St. Augustine HS) chipped in with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Fiorillo capped a 7-0 run late in the second half to put Flagler in control, 30-19, and the Lady Saints would go into the locker room up 34-23.
A pair of Alicia Ramsdell (Wells, Maine/Wells HS) free throws gave Flagler its biggest lead, 44-30, with 15:16 left in regulation.
PBA followed with a 28-14 run over the next nine minutes after an Ashley Hartman 7-foot jumper with 5:59 to play making the score 58-54. PBA could not get any closer.
The Lady Saints would put the game away with a 12-3 run after Allenbaugh drove in from the wing on a fastbreak for a layup.
Hartman and Shae Smith led Palm Beach Atlantic (4-12) with 14 points apiece. Hartman also tallied eight rebounds. Julie Feldhake added 13 points and six boards while JaLee Earls tacked on 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
Flagler will return to Florida Sun Conference play on Wednesday as they take on the Savannah College of Art and Design at 6 p.m. PBA visits Clearwater Christian College on Jan. 21 at 5 p.m.
