Three Flagler College alumni were recently honored at the Alumni Awards luncheon held in the Dining Hall of Ponce de Leon Hall.

Captain Donald B. Simmons III, who graduated in 1987, was granted the Professional Achievement Award presented to alumni who have demonstrated significant accomplishments in their fields and have achieved recognition in their field.

Simmons has accumulated more than 2,500 flight hours in more than 25 different aircraft over his career as a Commanding Officer in the U.S. Navy. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Strike Flight Air Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal as well as many other unit and service commendations.

Captain Simmons holds a Master of Science degree from the Florida Institute of Technology and is also a graduate of the United States Naval War College and the Defense Systems Management College.

Flagler presented the Young Alumni Achievement Award to 2006 graduate Lou M. Dubois.

This award is presented to alumni who are 32 years of age and younger, and have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments since graduating. The award recognizes contributions to society, to a profession or to Flagler College.

Dubois currently serves as the social media director for NBC News in New York. He landed the job after serving as the first social media editor NBC10 in Philadelphia. Prior to his work with NBC, Dubois has worked for outlets such as Inc. Magazine, Social Media Today and Sports Illustrated.

Letti Bozard, a 1997 graduate, was honored with the Community Service Award, which is presented to alumni who have demonstrated outstanding contributions serving their community.

Bozard is the Vice President of Community Involvement and Customer Strategy at Bozard Ford Company. Bozard focuses her energy into serving as a liaison between the Ford brand and the St. Augustine community.

The Alumni Awards were initiated in 1999 to honor those who have made significant contributions to their fields, the college or their communities. Every spring, the awards are presented to deserving alumni during Alumni Weekend.
