Flagler College junior Elizabeth Whitten was recently awarded the Retired Flagler College Faculty scholarship.

The Senior Association of Sociable Saints presented Whitten with an $800 scholarship at a recent luncheon hosted by Flagler President William T. Abare, Jr.

Whitten, an elementary education major, spends her summers teaching English and other subjects to villagers in Laos.

“When I received news of this scholarship, my immediate reaction was to call my mother and relish in God's blessing,” said Whitten. “This scholarship will not only help relieve so much stress, but it will also trickle down into the lives of children in Laos.”

The award is given based on academic achievement and need with the recipient’s name added to a plaque that hangs in the Ringhaver Student Center on the Flagler College campus.
