Flagler College President William T. Abare, Jr., honored Senator John Thrasher with the Distinguished Visitor Award on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the College at a ceremony last night in the Solarium.

Abare said that the award was based on his significant contributions to the State of Florida, St. Johns County, City of St. Augustine and Flagler College, particularly in the areas of education and historic preservation.

In addition, Thrasher was also presented with a letter of appreciation by the City of St. Augustine and a proclamation by St. Johns County.

Senator Thrasher served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1992-2000 and as Speaker of the House from 1998 to 2000.
He was elected to the State Senate in 2009, re-elected subsequently, and serves as Chair of the Rules Committee.
