Patrick Moser, associate professor of art at Flagler College, was recently published in the October issue of the Stigmart VIDEOFocus magazine for his video art piece.
Moser was recognized by the publication for his videos including “Saturn Fishing,” “86,” and “The Raking.” In the interview, Moser discusses his personal experience, motivation and inspiration for his art.
“I grew up in the American South where I spent a great deal of my youth playing basketball and fishing,” he said. “These experienced shaped me in part, teaching me how to see, how to lose, and how to turn failure into a learning experience.”
Two of his videos feature a mask, which has become his performance identity, allowing him to act without being overly self-conscious and simultaneously representing a particular meaning essential to the piece.
“I’m flattered to be included in the issue, as they accepted only about 15 artists from the 700 who applied,” he said. “I think it’s important that our students understand their professors are artists as well as teachers, actively participating in the rich visual culture we live in.”
VIDEOFocus is a web publication produced annually by a team of curators in Paris. Their interest is in digital work that occupies the space between traditional cinema and experimental art.
