Flagler College will host the eighth annual Communication Week on March 4-7 featuring speakers with a variety of backgrounds and experience in all areas of communication.
Industry professionals will share their knowledge with students by talking about career goals and offer advice to succeed in the industry. Communication Week will also feature discussion panels with communication professionals, as well as an alumni panel, composed of Flagler College graduates who have excelled in their area of the communication industry.
"This year's Communication Week will be filled with electricity. Our theme of “Lights! Camera! COM Week! sets the stage for a gathering of industry professionals who will appeal to every student in the major,” said Rosemary Tutt, assistant professor of communication and faculty coordinator for Communication Week. “The event will also spotlight successful alumni returning to campus to discuss their growth and success in what has become an industry of convergence.”
This year, Flagler College is proud to welcome award-winning photojournalist Bruce Strong as the keynote speaker for Communication Week 2013.
Strong is a multimedia storyteller and associate professor at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications who has shot both photography and video in nearly 60 countries around the world. He worked at the Orange County Register in Southern California for over a decade and has been published in world-renowned publications such as TIME Magazine and National Geographic. Strong is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. on March 4.
“It is hard to believe this is our eight Communication Week,” said Tracy Halcomb, chair of the Flagler College communication department. “Every year we bring to campus professionals with experience in a variety of communication industries. This year we have an amazing list of speakers who will interact directly with our communication students. It is just a great week for faculty and students. It really energizes everyone.”
Speakers at Communication Week also include: Deirdre Breakenridge, Chief Executive Officer at Pure Performance Communications, board member of NJ/PRSA and co-founder of PRStudChat, a monthly interactive Twitter discussion that connects PR students to PR professionals; Cathy Jamison, Network television marketing consultant and strategist; and Flagler College alum, Andrew Bernius, broadcast technician at C-SPAN, serving as control room director, video editor, and master control operator. There will also be a film panel discussion with local filmmakers.
All presentations by featured speakers will take place in the Gamache-Koger Theater in the Ringhaver Student Center, 50 Sevilla St. Panels, keynote and featured speaker presentations will be open to the public.
