Flagler senior Nicole Del Bene was recently awarded an internship position at the upcoming summer 2013 Cannes International Film Festival in France.

After attending a presentation at Flagler by Michael Bremer, the director of the American Pavilion program which serves as the communication and hospitality center for thousands of Americans in Cannes during the festival, Del Bene couldn’t suppress her curiosity in the unique internship program.

“I knew right away it was something I was interested in,” said Del Bene, a business major and pre-law and marketing double minor

She quickly began the extensive application process, which included sending a resume, transcript and two letters of recommendation as well as completing an online profile that had Del Bene answer six essay questions. She then was chosen for a phone interview, which led to her acceptance into the program.

Del Bene is one of only about 150 students from colleges and universities across the country accepted as interns for the two-week intensive program.

Prior to the Cannes Film Festival, interns will participate in a three-day orientation and tour, during which students will attend workshops and seminars to help them gain an understanding of the history and business of the festival and film industry.

During the festival, students will work six hours per day with the American Pavilion in a certain department of the business. They will also be given the opportunity to network with various professionals at the Roundtable Series, a small group discussion program that has featured well-known figures such as Tim Roth, Jude Law and Michael Moore.

“I’m excited for the internship,” said Del Bene. “I want to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, so this will give me the experience I need to get started.”

The Cannes program will run from May 12-27.
