Flagler College communication major and graduating senior Alex Bonus was named the Grand Award winner of the second edition of Anthology, a new print publication produced by the college's online newspaper, the Gargoyle.
The 2012 Anthology, a full-color publication released earlier this month, showcases students' work in journalism, opinion, public relations and photography.
Bonus’ feature, “A Clerical Error" — a look at health care for homeless patients — received the top score out of all student submissions. Entries were judged by communication department faculty. Bonus was a senior editor on the staff of the Gargoyle this semester, and produced the winning story in Associate Professor Helena Sarkio’s Advanced Reporting class.
Other students included in this year’s Anthology were Amber James, Mari Pothier, Michael Newberger, Ryan Buffa, Phil Sunkel, Jordan Novick, Emily Hoover, Kayleigh Hayes, Eric Albury, Alicia Maskley, Aleisa Miller, Meredith Rhein, Autumn Roth and Laura Modrall.
The Anthology was created in partnership with the Dow Advantage Public Relations, a student-run PR firm at the college.
The Flagler College Gargoyle went online-only in 2010 and chose to publish the Anthology as a way to continue producing a print publication - one that would showcase student work - but still continue to focus on producing its award-winning website, gargoyle.flagler.edu.
The Anthology is available on campus, as well as online at gargoyle.flagler.edu/2012/04/anthology2012
