Students and faculty from Flagler College's Natural Science department met with art and conservation icon Guy Harvey on Thursday.

The focus of the meeting was the College's new Coastal Environmental Science major, with several students explaining their research to Harvey.

While the meeting didn't last long, Harvey did have some advice for the students in attendance on how to do great research.

"First pick a topic that you're passionate about. Then make sure that the species you want to study is readily available," said Harvey. "But no matter where you go with it, work as hard as you can and you can succeed."

While at Flagler College, Harvey received the Florida House on Capitol Hill Distinguished Artist Award for his prolific works reflecting Florida's culture and environment.

Harvey is famous for his colorful paintings of marine life as well as a popular line of clothing. He is also the founder of the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation which funds scientific research and innovative educational programs to encourage conservation and best management practices for sustainable marine environments.
