Flagler College will hold its fall commencement ceremony Saturday, Dec. 10, for graduating seniors. Approximately 180 students will receive diplomas in the Flagler College Gym.

The commencement speaker will be Dr. Kathy Deagan, Distinguished Research Curator Emerita at the Florida Museum of Natural History and the Lockwood Professor of Florida and Caribbean Archaeology at the University of Florida.

Dr. Deagan has been recognized as a pioneer in the field of historical archaeology. Her research has focused on the archaeology of the Spanish colonial period in Florida and the Caribbean. She has conducted excavations in St. Augustine since 1972 and she is also associated with the excavations of La Navidad, the famous lost colony of Christopher Columbus in Haiti and Columbus’ later settlement of La Isabela in the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Deagan received her Ph.D. in 1974 from the University of Florida and, after teaching in the Florida State University Anthropology Department for eight years, she joined the University of Florida faculty in 1982.

King Street will be closed in both directions at the main gate of the college, from approximately 8:45 to 9:45 a.m., for the processional. Commencement begins at 9 a.m. and is not open to the public.

The Flagler College Public Administration program will graduate 16 seniors in a second ceremony at 4 p.m. in the Flagler College Auditorium.
