2011 WebAward winner for "Outstanding Achievement in Web Development"

After a 2010 redesign, the Flagler College website was recently rewarded an Education Standard of Excellence Award for “Outstanding Achievement in Web Development” at the 2011 Web Marketing Association’s WebAwards competition.

Judges chose Flagler’s site based on overall design, user experience, ease of use and content.

Now in its 15th year, the 2011 WebAward competition attracted over 2,000 sites from 45 countries in 96 industry categories. Entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation and use of technology.

Director of Web and New Media Services William Jackson is responsible for Flagler College’s Web presence and oversees all social media for the school. “My role (in the redesign) included organizing all meetings, coordinating with departments on content, approving layout and design concepts, supervising student focus groups and building Web standards used by Flagler College,” explained Jackson who has been with Flagler College since 2005.

Last year, the school hired Systems Alliance, Inc. (SAI), a web and IT consulting firm based in Hunt Valley, Md., to redesign Flagler College’s main website. For nearly six months, Jackson worked with the SAI team to determine what the website was missing along with the target audience and a design focused on prospective students.

The new site was launched in August 2010 and has since experienced a record 200 percent increase in admissions applications.

“A college’s Web presence is invaluable. Today, prospective students will Google you first before requesting information,” said Jackson. “A college must provide accurate information that is easy for a prospective student to find.”
