Welcome Back from Flagler President Joyner
Dear Students, Faculty, Staff, and Flagler Families,
Hurricane Irma was one of the most devastating hurricanes to hit Florida in decades, and its brunt was certainly felt here in St. Augustine. Fortunately, the College did not sustain major damage, and we at Flagler are as anxious as you are to get back to normal. We have spent the week assessing the campus, clearing debris, making needed repairs and ensuring that the College is safe and ready for your return.
This has been done thanks to the tireless work by numerous staff members, and I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to those in Maintenance, Student Services and Residence Life, Security, Technology Services, our senior staff and so many others who made it possible for us to get back up and running. I am very proud of all of their efforts, and I can tell you they worked day and night to make this happen.
I know many of you, as well as your families, have been impacted by this storm, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all you. Many in St. Augustine are also still hurting and in need of assistance, and I encourage any students who can to reach out and help in the community. A great place to start is through our Flagler College Volunteers Club, which can be found on The Hammock or Facebook. As we return to normal, now is the opportunity to help our community do the same.
I look forward to welcoming you all back home to Flagler on Monday for coffee and donuts outside the Ringhaver Student Center at 8:30 a.m. Please be safe as you return to campus this weekend, as well as for the start of classes on Monday morning.
Dr. Joseph G. Joyner
President, Flagler College
