Flagler College's Theatre Arts department to perform musical ‘The Spitfire Grill’
Flagler College’s Theatre Arts department will be performing “The Spitfire Grill,” an American musical that explores life at a crossroads, transitions and new beginnings, March 9 through 13 at Lewis Auditorium.
The musical, written by James Valcq and Fred Alley, is based on the 1996 film by Lee David Zlotoff and follows a woman’s journey out of prison and to a small town in Wisconsin. The lead character Percy (performed by Flagler student Sissy Hofaker) finds herself working at Hannah’s Spitfire Grill, a restaurant that has been on the real estate market for years. Percy proposes to the owner Hannah (played by senior Jennifer London) a raffle as a creative way to sell the business, and when the entries start to roll in, life takes a positive turn.
The rest of the cast includes students Dustin Delgross (Caleb), Brian Matthews (Joe), Megan Williams (Effy) and Rebecca Woods (Shelby) and Will Windle (Eli, pictured with Hofaker above). Understudies include Will Windle (Eli/Caleb), Alison Zador (Percy and Shelby), Josh Stephens (Joe) and Amelia Temple (Hannah and Effy).
The creative team (direction, design, publicity and music) includes Assistant Professor Kip Taisey, Associate Professor Paul Denayer, Jillian Cicalese, Rhian Franchebois, Kayla Lindsay, Dusti Winters, Liv Levine, Woods, Joanna Constantine and Michelle Henning. The production team includes Keira McDonald, Mykala Bazzell and Gwendolyn Ray.
The play, presented by special permission of publisher Samuel French, will be performed in Lewis Auditorium, 14 Granada St., March 9, 10, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. and March 13 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 general admission, available online at flagler.universitytickets.com. Tickets may also be purchased directly at the box office beginning March 7, Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m., and one hour prior to curtain.
