Flagler College to host annual St. Augustine Film Festival
Beginning Jan. 18 and running through Jan. 21, Flagler College will play host to the Saint Augustine Film Festival, featuring films from Syria, Georgia, Afghanistan, Poland, Estonia, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States, among others.
With six films based on true events and three documentaries, many of the films in this year’s lineup is inspired by the overarching theme of real events.
“In our increasingly global world where travel and technology makes us closer to one another than ever, a Film Festival is a wonderful way to see all that we share in common with one another,” said festival Marketing and Communications Director Sheila Kolesaire said. “It’s also great to have the chance to experience another culture.”
The featured films for this year’s festival are “Heaven’s Floor,” the opening night film, and “The Sense of Wonder,” the closing night film. “Heaven’s Floor” is based on true events and tells the story of a photographer who decides to go from Los Angeles to the Canadian Arctic on a photographic expedition. “The Sense of Wonder” follows a Provincial woman who is struggling to support her two young children once their father passes away, but finds solace in a stranger who is seeming to find solutions to all of her problems.
Tickets for the films in advance online are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 with a Flagler College ID. At the door prices are $2 more on each price point. Film-goers can also join any standby line with any available seats sold 10 minutes before a film. Based on audience feedback, new this year are three simplified Festival passes: An All Access Pass that covers all three parties and all films for $180; an All Films Pass for films shown at any venue for $100; and an All Lewis Auditorium Pass for $60 where most of the major films will be shown.
Leading sponsors for the 2018 Festival include The Lightner Museum, The St. Johns Tourist Development Council, Culture Builds Florida, The Corazon Cinema and Café, Flagler College, Kenneth and Shirley Walker, Allen and Cathie Altman, Mark and Kathy Edwards, The St. Augustine Distillery, Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits and Stella Artois Beer.
SAFF is presented by Flagler College and produced by The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival.
