Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

by Tom Stoppard

FEB. 20-21 and 27-28 at 7:30 P.M.
FEB. 22 and MARCH 1 at 2 P.M.

Presented by special arrangement with Samuel French
$15. Tickets available Feb. 16

Tom Stoppard’s Tony Award winning play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead  examines the “behind the scenes” world of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, with a comic and existential twist. The title characters are old school friends of Hamlet, who find themselves at the Danish court, but don’t know how they got there, or why. Through the course of the play, the two encounter Hamlet, Ophelia, Claudius, Gertrude, and Polonius, along with a troupe of players who have been sent to perform at court. Despite constant questioning about their purpose, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern never find answers, other than “we were sent for,” and that their ”only exit is death.”  New York Times describes the play as 'Very funny, very brilliant, very chilling, it has the dust of thought about it and the particles glitter excitingly in the theatrical air.'
