The Proctor Library has approximately 3500 movies, documentaries, and other varieties of motion pictures in the form of DVDs and VHS tapes in the Audio-Visual Collection (A-V Collection) on the first floor of the building in the southeast corner. These materials are available for checking out to students, faculty, and staff of Flagler College. Please see our Borrowing & Renewing page for policies regarding loan periods for these materials. The Library's New Video page is also updated every month with a listing of new videos added to the Library collection.
In order to find out if the Library has a particular video title available for checking out, please use the online catalog Voyager to search the Library's video collection. Use the DVDs, CDs, & VHS link on the Library home page to access Voyager:
The next screen which will appear is Voyager's search function, which in this case has been specifically programmed to search for audio and video materials only. If you know the exact title of the film you are looking for, you may enter the title into the search box and select the "Title" search from the drop down menu to the right (the title must be exact, or will not work with this particular search):
The next screen will show a list of the title matches, assuming that the title is held in the Library collection:
The records which show up on the screeen above will show title, availability, location, and call number for the video. The third listing above for "Citizen Kane" shows that it is located in the DVD section, has the call number of PN1997 .C5 2001, and is currently checked out. Clicking on the title link will pull up a detailed record on this specific title of "Citizen Kane":
As shown in the record above, this DVD is checked out and is due back on 3/17/08.
Another way to search for videos is with a "Title keyword" search. This can be used if your first "Title" search does not turn up any results, or, if you only know the partial title of a film. Let us use the example of "Star Wars" as a "Title keyword" search:
The results list of keyword matches appears after clicking the Search button:
As seen in the screen above, all three of the first "Star Wars" movies are returned in the results list. This is because all three of the films have the keyword terms "Star Wars" somewhere in the title field. Even though the title of the second film is "Empire Strikes Back," it nonetheless is returned in the "Title keyword" search because this film's proper title is "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back."
The Library encourages the College community to make use of our extensive and growing video collection. As always, feel free to speak to a Librarian any time you need assistance in the Library. We are here to help you!
