From time to time you may have an assignment that requires the use of scholarly or peer reviewed articles. These are articles that have been evaluated by experts in the field prior to publication, thus assuring that the content of the articles contributes to knowledge about the field. For research purposes, scholarly or peer reviewed articles are considered an indispensable bibliographic source.
Finding scholarly articles is easy to do by using the Proctor Library databases. Many of our most comprehensive databases contain an option to limit searches only to scholarly articles.
1. For example, we will look at the database Academic Search Premier, available by selecting the "Articles & Databases" link on the Library homepage:
2. Select Academic Search Premier from the alphabetical list of databases:
3. On the search page, look for the box to limit searches to "Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals" and check it off before initiating your search. This will instruct the database to return only scholarly or peer reviewed articles:
4. If you are using ProQuest, look for the limiting option beneath the search boxes:
5. In any Wilson Web databases, check the box for "Peer Reviewed":
6. Lastly, the database JSTOR carries journals that are principally composed of scholarly and peer reviewed articles.
As always, please see, call (904-819-6331), or email (library@flagler.edu) a Reference Librarian if you need assistance while using any of the Library's resources. We are here to help you!
