How to Find Music Recordings

The Proctor Library maintains a modest collection of CDs and other sound recordings. These are located in the Audio-Visual Collection (A-V Collection) on the first floor of the Library in the southeast corner (facing King Street). CDs may be checked out for up to 5 days or listened to using headphones on one of the two stereos in the A-V area. Headphones are available at the Circulation desk for check out.

To determine if the Library has a particular musical recording, you may browse the shelves in the A-V area or use the online catalog to perform a keyword search. The following guide explains how to do this.

3. After clicking the "Search" button, the results will appear in the next screen. On the results screen, you will note that the Library Location, Call Number, and Status is indicated. Click on the title link to be taken to a detailed record for the item:

4. A more detailed record for the CD emerges on the next screen. In looking at the buttons above the CD record, song listings for CDs can typically be accessed by selecting the "Table of Contents" button:

5. Next screen:

6. If you'd like to search under a specific genre of music, such as jazz, then try the search term "jazz" and select "Subject keyword" from the right hand drop down menu:

7. And the results:
