How to Use ebrary

The Library subscribes to two collections of e-books: ebrary and netLibrary. The books maintained in these two collections are real print books that have been scanned, digitized, and made fully available online. This guide explains the use of ebrary. To learn how to use netLibrary, please see our netLibrary guide.

1. The books contained within the ebrary collection can be accessed in one of two ways: indirectly through the Library catalog or directly through ebrary.

If using the catalog to search for books, it is likely that e-books will show up in the list of results. See the following screens to observe this process. First, access the catalog from the Library homepage by selecting the "Books & More" link:

2. Next, enter a search term or terms into the search box and select a field to search from the drop down menu. In this example, we will search for "health care" as a "Keyword Anywhere":

3. On the results screen, you will notice some of the books have their "Call Number" listed as "ebrary". Go ahead and select the title link to access the book:

4. On the page containing the book record, look toward the bottom for the link that says "Click here to link to this eBook through the ebrary database. Or see a reference librarian for assistance." Click this to be taken to the ebrary book:

5. Once the ebrary title is loaded, you may employ a number of different user functions to enhance the viewing experience. Click the "Contents" tab to see the book's table of contents:

6. The next screen displays the book's table of contents. Click on a page number to be taken to that specific page:

7. Use the blue arrows up top to go back and forth from one page to another:

8. Use the printer icon to print a page from a book:

9. The "InfoTools" button provides a number of user options. It can be used to search for a particluar keyword inside the book:

10. Use the buttons (containing the question marks) to page back and forth to each page of the book on which the keyword appears. Notice the word highlighted in red:

11. Use the button circled in red to jump to a specific page by number and use the button circled in orange to zoom in or out of the page:

12. ebrary has many more functions from which to choose. For more information, use the "Help" function inside ebrary:

13. To enter directly into ebrary, select the "Articles and Databases" link on the Library homepage.

14. The main database page lists the Library's databases in alphabetical order. Scroll down until you find ebrary and click the link:

15. From the ebrary homepage, use the search box to initiate a search on a particular topic:

16. The search results will appear on the next screen and you may scroll through the titles and select the books which are most releavnt to your research:
