How to Use Credo Reference

Credo Reference (CR) is an online reference library that provides you with access to a selection of reference books from a total of 162. It includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri and books of quotations, not to mention a range of subject-specific titles covering everything from art to accountancy and literature to law. This guide provides an overview of its use.

1. Begin at the Library homepage and select the link for "Articles & Databases":

2. From the alphabetical list of databases, select the link for Credo Reference:

3. The main search page for CR appears in the screenshot below. Use the search box to enter your keyword(s) and select a subject area to search from the drop down menu. Leaving the menu set to "All Subjects" will search every encyclopedia in the Credo collection:

4. For example, let's say you wish to locate encyclopedia entries on the Peloponnesian War. Enter in the search terms and hit Search. Leaving the search menu set to "All Subjects" will search for entries in every subject area:

5. The results screen appears in the screenshot below. Take note of the menu on the left side of the screen that allows you to rearrange results under different categories (for example, selecting the "history" link will rearrange the results so that only entries from history sources are shown). Otherwise, select the entry that looks good to you. Typically, the very first entry will be the most relevant:

6. On the screen with the main article, take note of the links on the left hand side of the screen that allow you to find related entries. On the upper right hand side of the screen, note the options to e-mail, print, save, or bookmark the article.

7. As you scroll down toward the bottom of the page, take note of the ability to produce a citation in APA, Chicago, Harvard, or MLA and then save it:
