The Biography Resource Center (BRC) database is an excellent online tool for locating detailed biographical information about both historical and contemporary persons of interest. This guide provides a basic overview about how to use this database.
1. Begin at the Library homepage and select the link for "Articles & Databases":
2. From the alphabetical list of databases, select the link for Biography Resource Center:
3. The next screenshot displays the main search page for the BRC. The easiest and quickest way to use the BRC is to enter the name of the person whom you are researching and hit the search button:
4. For example, let's say you want to locate information about Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. Simple enter his name and hit search:
5. From the next screen, select your person from the list if there is more than one result:
6. On the next screen, you will see a list of the different encyclopedia entries for the person (bottom two circles). Also note the tabs (top circle) that allow you to find brief biographies, websites, and news articles about the person. Click on the link for the person's name to obtain the encyclopedia entry:
7. On the next screen, note the ability to print or e-mail the article to yourself, as well as the Table of Contents whose links allow you to jump to any section of the encyclopedia entry:
