How to Use the Biblical Archaeology Society Online

The Biblical Archaeology Society’s BAS Archive Online is searchable collection of three important, peer-reviewed journals published by the BAS – Biblical Archaeology Review, Bible Review, Archaeology Odyssey. Users also have access to full-text electronic versions of five essential publications in the field of biblical archaeology. This guide explains how to use this resource.

1. Begin at the Library homepage and select the "Articles & Databases" link:

2. Choose the Biblical Archaeology Society Online (BAS Online) from the alphabetical list of databases:

3. The opening page of the BAS Online appears in the following screenshot. The latest issue of the Biblical Archaeology Review will appear on the main page. Note the ability to use the Search tab at the top to run a keyword search, the Table of Contents tab to examine the contents of the current issue, and the Quick Browse menu to locate a specific issue of one of the three publications covered in the BAS Online:

4. Selecting the Table of Contents tab will reveal the contents of the current issue, along with links to the different articles:

5. Running a keyword search is easy. After selecting the Search tab, enter your keyword(s) into the appropriate box and hit Search. The example below shows a general keyword search on "Sepphoris":

6. The results show up in the following screenshot. Select from the list of results the article(s) you find most appropriate for your research:

7. The article appears in the next screenshot. Use the Print Article tab at the top to print the article:

The BAS Online also maintains its own extensive help section if you are curious to seek out more information about searching this database.
