Holiday Safety Tips
The holidays are a time of good cheer. Practicing awareness of your surroundings, decisions, and behaviors will help you be safe while having fun. Some examples include:
- Be extra aware while driving and decide against the urge to speed. Many people on the road are in a distracted rush, and/or under the influence. Take a few minutes longer to arrive safely.
- When at a party or bar, be aware of what you are drinking. Decide not to drink anything you have not gotten yourself, or from an unattended glass. Use the buddy system and watch out for each other.
- If you are drinking alcohol decide to pace yourself. It can take 30 minutes or more to feel the full effects of alcohol. A common mistake is to drink too much too fast. Be especially aware of drinks with deceptively high alcohol content.
- When among travel/shopping crowds or at parties, pay attention to protecting personal items and identity information. The hustle and bustle provides a welcome opportunity for thieves.
