Mary Hickox, ‘15, has received a national scholarship from Alpha Psi Omega, a National Theatre Honor Society. With the help of Phyllis Gibbs, chair of the Theatre Arts Department, Mary applied for the APO award and won with an essay entitled, “I Want To Be An Actress.” The Alpha Psi Omega scholarship is given to a student who plans on using the scholarship to further his or her education and/or professional goals in theater.

Did you know that Flagler College offers a coastal environmental science degree? In fall 2008, Flagler launched a coast environment science minor that later developed into a major in fall 2013.

The coastal environmental science degree aims to apply the local Northeast Florida natural landscape such as marshes, estuaries, and coastline to classroom learning. Our local "living laboratories" allow students to take advantage of research and educational resources in the area, while concurrently getting a broad understanding of environmental concerns that we are faced with today.

Flagler public history majors recently had a glimpse into 1940’s - 1960’s St. Augustine.

As part of their upper-level public history course, Dr. Kelly Enright’s seniors are working on three main projects this semester. Among them are cataloging and processing information for the (proposed) St. Augustine Children’s Museum, the Lincolnville Excelsior Museum & Cultural Center, and the “Growing Up in St. Augustine” online exhibit....Click here to read more.

In mid-March, the Flagler College Theatre Arts Department honored the civil rights movement by performing, "In White America."

Directed by Jean Rahner (a Flagler College alumni and co-founder of the Limelight Theatre, and A Classic Theatre), this brutally honest story shared the journeys of different characters during the civil rights movement. From a runaway slave’s letter to a southern Senator’s speech, the emotionally riveting production featured historically accurate transcripts and speeches from both sides of the struggle....Click here to read more.

In early March, seniors in Laura Mongiovi’s Advanced Sculpture class showed off their original art in a unique way: by creating peephole boxes at St. Augustine’s First Friday Artwalk.

The peephole project provided an interactive experience for Art Walk visitors. Students also had to collaborate with the local businesses to display their art, so there was an added partnership element.
