Flagler College ranks ninth on U.S. News list of Best Regional Colleges in the South

(St. Augustine, Fla.) — Flagler College ranked ninth in the south for Best Regional Colleges in U.S. News Media Group’s 2011 annual edition of “Best Colleges.” The widely-used college guide includes rankings of more than 1,400 schools nationwide.

“I am thrilled with our ranking by U.S. News & World Report,” said Dr. William T. Abare, Jr., president of Flagler College. “It is a significant achievement for our college to be ranked among the top regional colleges in the south by this prestigious national publication.

“The ranking means a great deal to our entire college community – trustees, administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and donors. The ranking is an indication of the College's growing reputation. More importantly, it is an affirmation of our commitment to provide students with quality programs and services that create an exceptional educational experience.”

The Best Regional Colleges category includes schools whose focus is almost entirely on the undergraduate experience and who offer a broad range of programs in the liberal arts. The 319 colleges in the category draw heavily from nearby states and are divided into four regions.

An 'A+ School for B Students'

Flagler was also included on the list of “A+ Schools for B Students.” U.S. News said these schools are where “nonsuperstars have a decent shot at being accepted and thriving.”

The Best Colleges guide looks at how more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools compare on a set of up to 16 widely accepted indicators of excellence, including: peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
