The National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities recently launched the University & College Accountability Network (U-CAN), a Web site that organizes data from and links to all interested private post-secondary schools in the country. Not a ranking of schools, U-CAN’s goal is to provide critical information that potential students and their parents need to make the right college choice.
Currently, no single objective consumer resource exists to help prospective students choose a college or university that best fits their needs. Flagler, along with hundreds of other private colleges, has joined U-CAN in an effort to provide more easily accessible and comprehensive information.
Recently, the U-CAN initiative gained momentum and national attention when dozens of colleges and universities publicly announced their decisions to not participate in the most heavily weighted component of U.S. News & World Report's annual ranking of “America's Best Colleges.” Instead of reputation surveys or rankings, U-CAN offers free online access to objective and measurable data supplemented by targeted links to an institution's Web site.
