Logo for the St. Augustine Film FestThe 4th annual Saint Augustine Film Festival (SAFF) returns January 16 – 19, 2014.  Presented by Flagler College, the fest features 21 films. The films will be shown at various locations around the campus. Countries represented include: France, Spain, Italy, Laos, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Israel, Puerto Rico, Kenya, United Kingdom and USA.

Thursday, Jan 16:

1pm, Gamache-Koger Theatre (GK), MAGICAL UNIVERSE, USA / 77 min  Filmed for over a decade (using nearly 15 different cameras), MAGICAL UNIVERSE is a wondrous and moving portrait of Al Carbee, an 88 year old outsider artist who spends all his days alone in a labyrinthine house in Maine creating outlandish works of art -- mostly featuring Barbie Dolls in complex dioramas.  Special Guest, director Jeremy Workman introduces and leads Q&A following.

Movie Poster for Love is in the Air7pm, Lewis Auditorium, Opening Night Film, LOVE IS IN THE AIR France / 90 min, French w/English sub-titles  Antoine, an attractive Parisian living in New York returns to Paris.  Julie, an equally beautiful, young French woman, who finally has found  Mr. Right, also flies back to Paris from New York.  What’s the chance they will meet?  A rollicking, sexy, hilarious affair of the heart.

8:45pm, Lightner Museum, Opening Night Party  Following the hysterical LOVE IS IN THE AIR at Lewis Auditorium, JOIN US as we stroll across the street to the fabulous Lightner Museum. A complimentary champagne, wine and beer along with soft drinks greet you in the top floor ballroom. Stroll through the museum on this private and exclusive night. A buffet prepared by Casa Monica will be served in the pool area. Tickets are $35, FREE for FAST Pass holders.

Friday, Jan 17

11am, GK, XINGU, Brazil / 102 min / Portuguese w/English sub-titles  True Story...1940’s. Three young brothers decide to embark on a great adventure. They enlist in the Roncador-Xingu Expedition and head out on a trailblazing mission through Central Brazil. The saga begins with the crossing of the Mortes River after which they soon take over as expedition leaders and become involved in protecting the Indians and their diverse cultures.

1:15pm, GK, CHASING SHAKESPEARE, USA / 116 min / English  Chasing Shakespeare is a beautiful, enchanting, love story about a young Native American woman’s search for her destiny and her widower husband’s attempts to reunite with her after her death.

3:45pm, GK, ISN’T IT DELICIOUS, USA / 106 min / English  When Joan discovers she is dying of lung cancer, she sets out to reconcile her dysfunctional relationships with her 3 children, her husband, and along the way, her former best friend.  SAFF welcomes our Lifetime Achievement Honoree & co-star of the film, Keir Dullea.  Mr. Dullea will receive The Lifetime Achievement Award at Lewis Auditorium prior to THE ROCKET. A montage of his career will screen prior to the presentation of the award.

When his family loses their home and are forced to move, Ahlo meets the spirited orphan Kia (9) and her eccentric uncle Purple: an ex-soldier with a purple suit, a rice-wine habit and a fetish for James Brown.

11am, GK, Jonathan Bird’s BLUE WORLD  USA / 75 min / English Underwater enthusiast, Jonathan Bird , star & host of PBS’ BLUE WORLD takes you the underwater lab, AQUARIUS, shows you the fascinating natural phenomena of COLOR & CAMOUFLAGEand explains the biology & diversity of sharks. Special Guest: Jonathan Bird.

12:30pm, GK, BUONGIORNO PAPA! Italy / 106 min / Italian w/English sub-titles  Andrea is handsome, single and self-assured, with a skyrocketing career. In this hilarious erotic comedy two couples explore their sexual boundaries while juggling their everyday lives with kids and soccer practice.

7:15pm, LA, GIRL ON A BICYCLE France / 90 min / English  A hot blooded Italian to his very core, Paolo can’t get the image of this beauty out of his head and after a round of bad advice given to him by his best friend, Paolo attempts to meet Cécile to put an end to his obsession. This quest launches an entirely new relationship filled with surprise and laughs... leading to the ultimate question... Will Love finally conquer all?  Special Guests: Scott & Jere Mansfield

11am, GK, THE PRIME MINISTERS Israel / 115 min / English  Takes the audience inside the offices of Israel’s Prime Ministers, through the eyes of an insider, Yehuda Avner, who served as a chief aide, English language to Levi Eshkol, Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin, Menachem Begin, and Shimon Peres. Behind the scene stories involving Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter. Personalities including Henry Kissinger, Margaret Thatcher and Moshe Dayan to Harry Truman, Anwar Sadat, and Princess Diana appear.  Voices portrayed by Sandra Bullock, Michael Douglas, Leonard Nimoy and Christolph Waltz.

1pm, GK, TUTTI I SANTI GIORNI  Italy / 102 min / Italian w/English sub-titles  Guido is shy, reserved, well-educated. Antonia is restless, touchy and proudly ignorant. He is a night porter who loves ancient languages and saints. She is an aspiring singer and works for a car rental company. They see each other only in the early mornings when Guido returns from work and wakes her with breakfast, and they make love every blessed day.

5pm, ET, BROCE DEL ORO Puerto Rico / 90 min / Spanish w/English sub-titles  Rafael, Anselmo and Pablo run away from the strict retirement home where they live, to enjoy a weekend of fun and frolic. Together, they have a day filled with laughs, love and camaraderie, in an adventure that unites three generations.

This fun, breezy romp is laughter filled light entertainment.  Its a screwball comedy for the new millennium...fast moving, surprising and at times, a bit risqué.

7pm, GK, FLAGER SUPER 8 STUDENT FILMS  USA / 75 min / English  A selection of short 8mm and 16mm films produced by Flager College communication and media production students.
