Professional Profile:

Professor Darby received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego. He earned his B.S. in Psychology from Brigham Young University. Professionally, he has worked as a management consultant for the Gallup Organization and as a research consultant for SAIC. His research interests are diverse and he has studied topics such as the behaviors of great managers, shame and guilt after a doctor’s visit, the cardiovascular health benefits of forgiveness, and the memorability of Facebook posts. His current research focuses on emotions at work—what do organizations and managers need to do to create an emotionally healthy, thriving, and productive workplace?

In addition to his work within academia, Dr. Darby consults with organizations on employee performance and engagement. Dr. Darby has taught over 100 employee engagement and strengths seminars to large and small businesses, government agencies, and public schools. As a management consultant, he has also consulted with senior leaders of Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies on maximizing the engagement and performance of their employees.
