Professional Profile:

Dr. Helena Särkiö holds a B.A. and an M.S. in Journalism and Mass Communication from Iowa State University, and a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota. She has worked as a reporter, producer, assignment editor, videographer and video editor at television stations in the Midwest and East Coast, and she has taught at the University of Minnesota, at the University of Colorado and at the University of Florida. At Flagler College, Dr. Särkiö is the Journalism coordinator of the Journalism and Documentary Production major, and she has founded and advises the Flagler College chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. In 2013, Dr. Särkiö received the Flagler College Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching, and she is a native of Helsinki, Finland.
