The upcoming Spring Commencement Ceremony marks the largest graduating class in Flagler College history. So that we are able to comfortably accommodate our graduates family and friends, we are holding the ceremony off campus in the St. Augustine Amphitheater.
Date of Commencement Ceremony: Saturday, April 21, 2012
Time: Ceremony will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Location: St. Augustine Amphitheater, 1340 A1A South, St. Augustine, FL (map)
Commencement Rehearsal: Date and time to be determined.
General InformationOnce a student earns 60 semester hours, he/she is responsible for scheduling the Graduation Interview with the Office of the Registrar.
All graduates are required to participate in the Commencement Ceremony, unless officially excused by Mr. Yvan Kelly, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
No one will be admitted without a ticket. You may pick up your tickets from the Office of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs during Graduation Clearance Week: TBD. Each graduate will receive 6 admission tickets for family, relatives, and friends. Sign language interpreters and handicapped seating will be available. Please indicate the need for these when picking up your tickets.
It is mandatory that all prospective graduates attend rehearsal. Rehearsal time and place will be determined and usually lasts about one hour. Dress for rehearsal is casual. The alphabetical line-up is critical to the ceremony, as are specific seating assignments. Dean Yvan Kelly will coordinate the rehearsal, and any questions concerning the ceremony may be directed to him.
Students graduating with honors will wear an Honor Cord. If you are graduating with honors, your Honor Cord will be presented to you at commencement rehearsal. According to the level of academic achievement, the degree may be awarded summa cum laud (3.9 – 4.0), magna cum laude (3.7 – 3.89), or cum laude (3.5 – 3.69). To qualify for graduation with honors, a student must complete at least 56 credit hours of academic work at Flagler College that carry letter grades of A, B, C, or D. Pass/fail options are not applicable. All courses for which no quality points are assigned are included in this pass/fail category, (for example: internships, field experiences, and practicum). Only courses taken at Flagler College are computed in determining honors. The grade point average will be rounded to the hundredth decimal place.
Men are to wear a dress shirt (preferable white) and tie, dark slacks, and dress shoes. Women are to wear a dress or dark dress slacks/skirt and blouse, and dress shoes. Students not adhering to this dress code, will not be allowed to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. Caps and Gowns must be ordered by the graduate with Jostens, Inc. at www.jostens.com or with a Jostens rep on campus on various advertised days . They will be delivered to the college for pickup during Graduation Clearance Week. If a student has any questions, please contact Dean Kelly at 819-6392.
If a student has guests in need of special accommodations, he/she must advise the Office of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs when obtaining tickets. An interpreter will be available for hearing impaired persons, and special seating is provided for those requiring interpreter services. Special seating arrangements are also available for those who require the use of wheelchairs or who cannot otherwise navigate the bleachers.
Following the Commencement Ceremony a reception, hosted by the Flagler College Alumni Association, for graduates and their guests will be held in the College Dining Room, no tickets are required.
