Lily Kuonen's work is a synthesis of painting with additional forms and actions (PLAY + PAINTING). She plays "within an intermediary level, where wood, canvas, paint, and all the scraps and tools of the studio can combine to explore beyond categorical structures." Working within a standard language of form, text, and familiar material, a hybridization occurs that emphasizes the relationships between various materials, and in turn equalizes their purpose, allowing more room for interpretation and interaction. This exhibition will include a variety of works that explore the idea of lineage in the artist's studio practice, in which she re-uses and re-purposes materials and sometimes entire works, in her production process.
This exhibition was funded in part by the Individual Artist Grant (Art Ventures Grant) from The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida.
