Books
and Supplies
Tuition
does
not include
the cost
of required
textbooks
and supplies
which
must
be purchased
by the
student
at the
beginning
of each
semester.
The bookstore is
operated by an
independent
contractor,
and payment
is permitted
by cash
or check,
Visa
or Master
card. Students should report to the College with sufficient funds
to purchase the required textbooks and supplies. Even if a student
is expecting to have a credit on the student account from the
financial aid, that credit will not be available for refund in
time for the student to purchase books and supplies. The cost
of textbooks and supplies varies greatly according to the courses
in which the student is enrolled. The average cost for underclassmen
is about $350 to $400 per semester. Supplies for graphic art
classes can be considerably higher. A book buy-back is held at
the end of each semester.
Each
student
should
arrive
at the
College
with
sufficient
funds
to purchase
the required
textbooks
and supplies. Students
should
not depend
on credit
refunds
from
financial
aid programs
to pay
for books
since
such
credits
do not
materialize
that
early
in the
semester.
The cost
of books
varies
greatly
but averages
about
$350
per student
per semester.
Textbooks
are returnable
during
the first
two weeks
of each
semester.
Also,
a book
buy-back
is held
at the
end of
each
semester.
Class Ring
The official Flagler College Class Ring is a unique design available
from Balfour which comes to campus once a semester to take orders.
Rings also may be ordered by phone (1-866-BALFOUR [866-225-3687],
and ask for reference code: 2170 [MST0044-51/FL22]). More information
and pictures are available on the Balfour
Web site. A special ring presentation candlelight ceremony
is held later in the semester when the rings arrive. The college
president presents each student with his or her ring.
Counseling
Services
There is no charge for the visits made by students with short-term
or emergency issues to the College's mental health counselors,
located upstairs at 20 Valencia (above the Business Office). The
college also has an agreement with a qualified licensed psychologist,
and students referred for professional counseling are responsible
for any charges that may be incurred.
Health
Insurance
The College offers a group student accident and sickness plan
at $355 for the full year (2005-2006
rates). A pamphlet outlining the coverage is included with the
first billing statement. The insurance may be declined by deducting
the cost from the statement and completing a waiver stating
the student is adequately protected by other policies. Students
from foreign countries are required to purchase the insurance
and are not permitted to waive the coverage. An optional major
medical policy is also available.
Health Services
There is no charge to visit the doctor or nurse at the College's
Infirmary or to receive Infirmary-dispensed medications, unless
the medications are by prescription. The doctor is available early
weekday mornings. A registered nurse is on duty the rest of the
day.
Parking Decals
All vehicles must be registered with College Security and bear
an official decal. The decals are provided free of charge; however,
parking is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited.
Additional paid parking is available four blocks north of the
College at the public lot for $3 per every two days. The two-day
parking passes are available at the adjacent Visitors Information
Center, (904) 825-1000.
