Professional Profile:

Dr. Helena Sarkio holds a bachelor's and master's degree in journalism and mass communication from Iowa State University and a Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Minnesota.  She has worked as a videographer, video editor, assignment editor and producer at television stations in the Midwest and East Coast.  Dr. Sarkio teaches print and broadcast journalism courses and she is the advisor of the Flagler College chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.  Dr. Sarkio's research concentrates on gender, ethnicity, race and class in the media.  She is a native of Helsinki, Finland.
